I think this book is hysterical. This story is a spoof & she has her tongue planted firmly in her cheek. If you didn't realize this, you might think she's some sort of crazy lady.
If she is, I appreciate her kind of silly humor. I have that kind of silly humor. By the way, the author is "The Alice" from Arlo Guthrie's song & music album "Alice's Restaurant." Just one more silly person to keep the earth from spinning off its axis.

Whenever he introduces Mooses Come Walking as a poem at his concerts, Arlo explains that he's tired of all those self-actualizing and feel-good children's books. Instead, he wants to go back to the days when a book would scare the hell out of you, one that gives kids a reason to stay in bed at night. So, he writes it himself with his usual flair for humor.
I never tried this with any of my cats and I would be willing to bet no feline would sit still for the attempt. But it is fun to imagine and the illustrations are great.
Cute. I wish I were familiar with the tune, though, as the rhythm doesn't jump out at me as I read it.
