I love the idea, the mission, and the illustrations, but the text and story don't flow as well as they could. (Yes, the author is a sixth-grader. But still.) Cheerleading back matter encourages young readers to look around their own communities and work for change.

Glad that "flesh" colored crayons are a thing of the past!

Love the message and what Bellen was able to change at such a young age! As a mixed ethnicity myself growing up I can remember the same sentiments she had regarding peach as a skin color and thinking "well, that's not my skin color." I love having something I can celebrate and bring attention to skin color intentionally, changing the speech in my classroom on this topic as well.

I am very happy that Audrey will grow up in a world where "shades of the world" crayons exist. Even among those of us who classify as "peach," there is so much variety. We are more than peach y'all!
