Best SHORT one volume history of this war I have ever seen. It ties it all together better than any single book on the topic I have ever read. Definitely done from a game designer's prospective but excellent analysis.
This book is by an amateur historian and published wargame designer who has a special interest in World War I. It appears to be based entirely on already published sources and accounts and focuses rather narrowly on military strategy and maneuvers at a fairly high level. No social history or personal accounts of combat hell here, and only slight mentions of politics and economics. It is good as far as it goes, although better maps could make his account of some of the campaigns more show more understandable. It is worth mentioning that he treats the Russian Civil War as an integral part of the First World War and carries his story forward through the end of the Russian Civil War. show less
