The story kicks off from the first chapter, but the story is slow and intimate - even amongst the characters’ relationships. To get through the hardship of what happens around her, Genna relies on God and the Bible. There are a lot of characters to connect with and follow, with chapters changing from one point of view to another.

The names are inconsistent outside the dialogue, switching between ‘Gen’ and ‘Genna’, ‘Cass’ and ‘Cassidy’. There is also a point of view change show more when the protagonist talks in the first person when it isn’t a thought. It also gets confusing at times which dialogue belongs to which character without context because they sometimes share the same paragraph. There are also missing punctuation scattered in the book.

Nonetheless, the story has nice descriptions so events can be followed visually.
