One of the better Luftwaffe fighter biographies to appear in recent years. Hermann Buchner started out as a ground attack pilot, flying Bf-109Es and Fw-190 fighter bombers in attacks against the Red Army. Along the way, he learned how to dogfight the Russian A/F as a matter of course and became a fighter ace. During his career he also served as a fight instructor and had some memorable incidents. Towards the end of the war, he transferred to the Me-262 jet fighter and became a jet ace, show more scoring 12 victories over the B-17s and B-24s, along with victories against P-51 Mustangs, F-5 Lightnings and Avro Lancasters.
Well written, straightforward, and full of interesting photographs, this book is a must buy for anyone interested in the Luftwaffe.
BTW, his victories were well verified by Allied losses so he must be considered one of the more reliable Luftwaffe scorers. He was awarded the Knight's Cross in 1944.

An interesting book about a pilots experience during the second world war and how it came to be that at the end of the war he was a jet fighter pilot and of course his experiences as a jet fighter pilot. The jet aircraft's is often overlook t in other books so its nice to be able to read this much about an interesting aspect of the war, you also gets a glimpse of how life could be for pilots on the eastern front where the writer served as an attack aircraft pilot during a part of the war.
