Humphrey Wanley (1672–1726)

A very well edited collection of Wanley's letters with good annotations and an excellent introduction. Wanley swings wildly between obsequious and tetchy, which makes for excellent reading, and there are very useful tidbits in here on the history of books, from Wanley's interest in historical paleography and papermaking to his scholarly pursuits and his interactions with members of the book trades.
