Awesome story. The artwork has excellent background details that enhance the story, but body motions and perspectives are off just a tad. Doom has to be one of the greatest characters in the Marvel Universe. This graphic novel explores that complexity without tarnishing his complete despicable evilness.
This is the textbook example of how to take what common wisdom suggests is a pointless character and make him one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Universe. Not only is Madrox rehabilitated here, but it's a fun story, setting up the X-Factor run with these characters, and it has some really nice art.
A competent retelling of the various points of Doctor Doom's origin set into a continuous narrative, but despite the large personality of the narrator/protagonist and the often gripping events depicted, it only rarely manages to build much momentum or drama in my opinion, feeling instead as though it is simply checking off boxes in a list of Doom trivia to be covered. The ending, at least, is very gratifying and chilling, but it sadly only takes up a small handful of pages in the very last show more issue. show less
Peter David provides another entertaining chapter of his X-Factor series. His trademark witty dialogue is in full supply in here, and many of the characters have wonderful moments, either solely in pairs. The chemistry between M and Siryn, as they navigate their previous trysts with Jamie, is just sizzling, and as usual I'm just in love with what he does with Layla Miller. The plots are pretty good too, but it's the characters and dialogue which really make this trade great.
