Viveca Lindfors (1920–1995)

Viveca Lindfors was born in Uppsala, Sweden.
She trained at the Royal Dramatic Theater School in Stockholm, and soon became a star of Swedish stage and films. In 1946, she was brought to Hollywood by Warner Brothers, which hoped she would become a new Greta Garbo. She appeared in more than 100 films, alongside top male stars.

In 1952, she appeared on Broadway with Edmond O'Brien in John Van Druten's play I've Got Sixpence. Two years later, she made her London West End debut in J.B. Priestley's play The White Countess.
In 1962, she shared the Silver Bear for Best Actress award with Rita Gam at the Berlin Film Festival, for their performances in Tad Danielewski's No Exit.
Lindfors appeared frequently on television, usually as a guest star, in the 1950s and 1960s, with a resurgence in the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1990, she won an Emmy Award for her guest appearance on the series Life Goes On.



In her later years, she taught acting at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She wrote, directed and co-starred in Unfinished Business (1987), a highly personal, autobiographical drama. In 1995, she returned to Sweden to perform at the Strindberg Festival in Stockholm in her one-woman production, In Search of Strindberg.
Lindfors was married four times, and had three children: John Tabori; actor Kristoffer Tabori, who appeared with her in 1980 in the play My Mother, My Son; and Lena Tabori. She described her colorful life in a critically-acclaimed 1981 autobiography entitled Viveka ... Viveca.
