This is the final DVD in series 2. In 'Fear her' the Doctor takes the tardis to 2012, shortly before the London Olympics. He and Rose learn that the street where they arrive is full of fear, as children have been disappearing. It becomes clear to the viewer that one little girl has strange powers. We thought this a very thought-provoking episode, pondering the question as to whether humans or aliens are necessarily more dangerous.
Unsurprisingly, this series ends with another two-parter, Army show more of Ghosts and Doomsday. We watched both parts in one evening. The Doctor and Rose land in London again, only to find that every day some ‘ghosts’ appear. They seem to be harmless and amicable; Rose’s mother Jackie is certain that the one in her kitchen is her long-dead father. The Doctor knows this isn’t right and manages to trace the origin to Torchwood Tower.
There are cybermen and daleks, infiltrating the world, and potentially leading to its doom. There are some quite emotional scenes towards the end; I was quite engrossed in this story, and found it very moving.
Definitely recommended if you like this kind of character-oriented sci-fi/fantasy.
