I'm a multi-disciplinary artist and writer working between Los Angeles and the UK. I create content for television, print and animation.
My love of comedic ideas and characters, illustrated patterns, hand-painted shapes and textures, children's books, the esoteric, as well as animal friends and food, have shaped the foundation of my work.
I have nearly 20 years of experience writing, designing and illustrating for children's television, picture books, pattern & print design and animation. I earned my BFA in illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design where I was offered a scholarship to study abroad - I'm from the UK and had never been to the USA before! I loved it and decided to transfer from the Edinburgh College of Art, where I'd been studying originally.
Over the years, I've been fortunate to collaborate with amazing clients like the BBC, Penguin Random House, Scholastic, The Guardian and The Santa Barbara Zoo.

Penguins Love Colors by Sarah Aspinall isn't a book I would typically go for, but I thought it was very cute and great for younger students. I read this book because a girl that I babysit for insisted that I read it to her. The book is about a family of penguins all named after colors who want to surprise their mom with a birthday present, so they all come together to make a rainbow present. The writing is large and simple, and very easy to understand. The illustrations are what really show more elevated this book. Of course it is a children's book, but the way it is illustrated makes it engaging for adults as well. I think this is a great book because it talks about themes of family, but can really apply to any student - because they are penguins! show less
Aspinall, S. (2016). Penguins Love Colors. New York: The Blue Sky Press.
This book was written with the young reader, like a preschooler in mind with its bright colors. Penguins Love Colors teaches not only about colors but about flowers that would be those colors and their names. The penguins in this story are surrounded by a blank white canvas of snow but want to make something special for their mom. The story teaches to use creativity even if it does get a little messy. The way the text is show more written it leads to open ended questions that can be asked of the young reader as well. show less

{My thoughts} – This has got to be one of the cutest alphabet books I have come across in a very long time. I really enjoyed reading it. It isn’t really long and I am sure that the attractive bright rainbow coloring throughout the pages will easily draw my one year old in and help her find interest in listening to the story within the pages. It is so nicely put together and the illustrations are so bright, vibrant and rainbow that any child will be drawn into its pages. Not to mention show more that it is full of some very cute penguins!
I think that this book would be an excellent addition to any bookshelf and that it is an interesting take on helping children to learn the alphabet. It can also help children to learn new words, which is a big thing at a young age. Children’s minds are like sponges they soak up everything and this book has the best of all things in it. It has the alphabet, new words and colors. It has wonderful illustrations and is just an all around fantastic book. I look forward to sharing this book with my one year old very soon. show less

The book “Penguins Love Colors”, is a funny and cute informational picture book about colors. The author does a wonderful job of giving each penguin not only a favorite color, but a name to match their colors. For example, Bluebell’s favorite color is blue. The books tell doesn’t just tell children the name of colors and objects that have the same color. It also has a story a lot with it, allowing children to read learn about colors through a story. I like how the author related the show more story in that young kids can relate, while still being informational. The story is about six little penguins who just want to make something for their mother. Young children can relate to this, wanting to make something for their mommies. Another aspect I like, is how the book gives children an idea to use paints and colors to make a gift. The author does a good job of weaving information with color fun. show less
