this is a rich and detailed coverage of over 300 people, all deceased who contributed to the history and shaping of the Magaliesberg from earliest times relying on careful documentary research. the first part of the book is an alphabetical listing and the second is a chronological listing of events. Vincent is a recognized authority on the Magaliesberg and has published a number of books on the ecology, geography, archaeology, astronomy ,history of the region and writes across many show more disciplines. He drove the initiative which led to the Magaliesberg being designated a UNESCO biosphere Reserve in 2015. His research is always thorough but never dull. An extraordinary range of people have lived in and studied the Magaliesberg - it is the recreational back yard of the greater Johannesburg but as one enters the North West Province the topography air and ambience changes. there is no better guide than the books of Vincent. show less
I've found this to be a very handy little guide, covering trees, flowers and fungi as well as animals of all types. It's not as comprehensive as the thick specialist tomes on each type of wildlife, but much easier to use and it covers most of the more common species.
