I had mixed feelings about this book after reading it. I liked the book because it was quick for a teacher to use as a guided reading. The writing flows very easily. The characters are believable. Although, they are not very well developed because it is such a brief story. The language is brief on each page. At most there are 11 words on a page. What I do really like about this story is the message it sends. It shows students the way different cultures have different traditions. In this case show more her mother gives her a present, while the father gives her a pinata with her present inside. They are very different. This pushes a reader to think about different cultures and how different people have different traditions. show less
