In the style of "Abraham Lincoln, Zombie Slayer," this collection of short stories was mildly entertaining. I especially liked the first one, "Android of Green Gables." It was a steam-punk version of the original story, and (SPOILER ALERT) it was interesting to see how the story had a very similar emotional conclusion to the original!

The "Little Women In Black," however was a great disappointment to me! I'm a big fan of the MIB movies (Tommy and Will should do for MIB what Johnny Depp has show more done for Pirates of the Caribbean), and I let the picture on the cover of the book mislead me into thinking this would be a combination of the two. Yes, there was an alien, but that was about the extent of the story, and there were two characters the author hinted about, but never disclosed their secret.

The remaining stories were mediocre, but for the price of the book, you might enjoy a little pabulum, and if it gets someone to read the originals, then good on ‘em!

Soulmates by Mike Renick and Lezli Robyn is a collection of short stories that express life through a slightly different lens. The opening story, "Benchwarmer" tells of children's toys and pretend friends. Boy and Mr. Paloobi are a wonderful pair. The reader views the world from the perspective of the imaginary toys. The Boy as Old Man needs Mr. Paloobi again to play chess and keep him company. The slightly tilted lens of these stories includes aliens, monsters, and talking cats. Readers of show more science fiction, short stories, and of "Twilight-Zone" style fiction will be delighted with this collection. Fine writing and good characters provide an entertaining reading opportunity. show less
