This book is jam-packed with facts and trivia about all kinds of snakes found around the world. Using illustrations, photographs, and text, the book explains all facets of a snake's life from laying eggs to shedding skin to catching prey. The book features "special x-ray vision," which is basically holding pages up to the light to see what's on the reverse side. It's well done though so that one side will have a snake's skin while the reverse page will have a snake's bones. When held to the show more light, you can see both pictures to get a clearer picture of what a snake looks like inside and outside. It's a little gimmicky, but it's a pretty neat trick. This is an excellent publication which is exciting for students in its topic (scary creatures and the Arctic) and its display. With large, colourful photos, illustrations and x-ray pages, this book is visually appealing to young readers. The variety of reading levels included in the text make this book manageable to a larger range of readers, and the simple contents (in the form of questions), index and glossary make this a very easy to navigate non-fiction read! Highly recommended.
