Sonny Daniels is an average kid, caught, with his parents, in the zombie outbreak in upstate New York. After the first year, the base is no longer safe. Sonny's parents send him, and two orphaned friends, Ashley and Carrie, on a military plane to Fort Denver, Colorado.

After that place becomes no show more longer safe, the three are on their own in a zombie-filled wasteland. They have to rely on each other, and the few other survivors they meet. Finding a new place to call home would be nice, but hard decisions may to be made in the meantime,

This is a really good novel. The whole zombie genre may be overdone, but the author does a fine job with the story and characters. This is an entertaining tale that will keep the reader interested. show less

Outbreak is the first book in the Dark Days series written by Christopher Cole. Based on the zombie apocalypse, this book will hook you from start to end. The story is fast-paced, with many characters; some had to make tough decisions to survive, while some were reckless enough to put everyone at risk. With foul language, violence, and gruesome acts, this book is also about friendship and portrays mortals' demeanor. I'm so eager to read the next installment asap. I recommend this book to show more adults only.

The second book in The Dark Days series, Sanctuary, is written by Christopher Cole. In the first part, Outbreak, we learn that the protagonist Sonny and his friends went to look for Fort Gold Rush, the only place they knew could provide them shelter and safety from zombies. This story focuses more on the bandits and how these kids fight with them.

The novel is fast-paced and filled with action sequences to keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters constantly fight for their survival show more and make associations along the way. Overall, I relish reading it and have high hopes for the next book. I recommend it to those who enjoy action-packed apocalyptic stories.
