"Super 8" by Adam Lewis is a psychological thriller that thrusts readers into the dazzling yet sinister world of 1970s stardom. Natasha, a starlet in the adult film industry, appears to have it all—beauty, fame, wealth, and a picture-perfect life. But behind the glitz lies a growing danger: an obsessed stalker who shatters the illusion of safety that her fame provides.

The book masterfully captures the tension between the allure of celebrity and the darkness it can attract. Natasha’s show more journey is equal parts glamorous and harrowing, with each chapter peeling back another layer of her seemingly perfect world. The ‘70s setting is vividly portrayed, creating a rich backdrop of flashy lights and shadowy dangers that feel both nostalgic and foreboding.

What makes "Super 8" stand out is how it explores obsession and the cost of fame. Natasha isn’t just a victim; she’s a complex character navigating a world that both adores and endangers her. The suspense builds steadily as her stalker’s presence becomes more threatening, leading to a finale that’s as chilling as it is satisfying.

If you enjoy dark, character-driven thrillers like "Gone Girl" or "Misery," "Super 8" delivers that same intensity, but with a unique retro twist. It’s a gripping, unsettling look at the high price of living in the spotlight, perfect for readers who love their thrillers with a touch of glamour and grit.

Super 8 by Adam Lewis is an absolute page-turner that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let go. The story, told as a flashback, follows actress Emilia’s journey from a small town to the gritty and glamorous world of the 1970s porn industry. Along the way, she experiences success, love, and the terrifying reality of being the target of a stalker-turned-psychopath.

Lewis masterfully immerses readers in this evocative and controversial setting, with its smoky lounges, seedy studios, show more and neon-lit streets brought vividly to life through his sensory-rich descriptions. Emilia is a determined and relatable protagonist, striving to succeed despite her insecurities. While the story features moments of violence, they are handled tastefully, avoiding gratuitous detail.

The subplot involving the psychopath is chilling, and while I wanted to find some sympathy for him, his irredeemable nature made that impossible. One of the book’s strengths is the way it intertwines the lives of Emilia, Rick, and Karl. However, I did wish the connections between their stories had been revealed earlier, as the suspense of waiting for them to converge felt prolonged.

Overall, Super 8 is a captivating read with well-drawn characters and a vivid sense of place. Lewis’s ability to weave tension and emotion throughout the narrative makes this a book worth reading.

This book is dark and gritty, colorful and glitzy, kind of how I think of the 70s. I felt like I could see the people, the places, the events, as if I was watching them on a movie screen. Adam Lewis' descriptions kept me reading far past my bedtime, which is probably one of the highest compliments I could give, because I really love sleep.
