A series of stories—which I found I either liked a great deal (such as “The Temple” and “Sciolet”) or didn’t care for at all—about the Jewish district in Budapest circa World War II. Most of the stories share a poignancy and wonderful evocativeness of a lost world. All focus on personalities in one way or another; many are told by their narrators in retrospect yet none really yield to nostalgia. Well-written, well-translated, enjoyable, and worth seeking out (you can also find show more it here for free, subject to a (free) membership). The authors were brothers who survived the Holocaust and fled Hungary during the 1956 uprising, settling in Italy, each becoming a professional writer (Giorgio chose fiction, Nicola chose financial journalism). show less
Vedo spesso il signor Pressburger sulla linea 30.
Parla un dialetto triestino impeccabile :-)
Mi stava simpatico a pelle già prima. Dopo aver letto questi racconti gli voglio un po' di bene!
