In this old-fashioned detective story, the reader is transported to Cambridge University in 1938. Our current murder seems to be tied to a much older crime related to the history of the college (& the Tudor dynasty), which involves a lot of characters (and which I couldn’t follow). Some elements of the plot were not strong, such as the premise for the MC’s elaborate plan. The story is non-suspenseful and slow-paced, as we follow the detective’s daily activities down to his many tea show more breaks. I didn’t find the story very interesting but enjoyed that it’s written in a pleasant and light manner, and is often drole.
