The last of this year's Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award nominees I've read, and kind of disappointing. The story was great, with Grace becoming fast friends with a refrigerator box and having all kinds of adventures with it. However the rhyme and rhythm scheme is so clunky and awful, it's my least favorite - da DAH da DAH da DAH da RHYME, da DAH da DAH da DAH da RHYME. Over and over again. Just didn't get any pleasure from reading it, despite the great premise and colorful and show more imaginative illustrations.

2024- Just reread this and the same thoughts struck me. I wish it was written in plain languauge - I don't think this needed the rhyme scheme. show less
