(7.5) This is an interesting fictionalized account of Sir George Grey's time in New Zealand seen through the eyes of the narrator, an imagined sister-in-law. It follows the journey of Eliza Lucy Spencer, from Lyme Regis to Albany Australia, where she marries Grey. He is then appointed Governor in Auckland.
It looks at the relationship between the Crown and the Maori tribes as well as presenting a vivid picture of colonial society in Auckland.
This was an enjoyable read which had me googling show more the main characters. show less
