A US army officer, of middling intelligence is shipped to a small island to corral a Japanese army holdout. But very little about the assignment is as it seems, as his assignment is really about beefing up a detachment's baseball team. It gets amusing.
A combination of dirty politics, sex, and a murder is not a unique story line, but here it's done fairly well. The story moves well and doesn't get bogged down with a couple interesting subplots that keeps the reader guessing...
