Ellis was an evangelist, serving in churches in Connecticut, California, Windsor Canada, and Kendallville. He was also a publisher of Sacred Selections. He was a missionary on several trips to Africa, and directed many tours to the Holy Land. He was a member of the Kendallville Church of Christ.
