This is a volume in the series of opulent hardbound volumes on the architectural treasures of the world. As can be expected, the text is authoritative and detailed, and the photographs and illustrations are mind-blowing. There is even a chronological table for ready reference. My only niggles are the paucity of maps to locate the places, and the impression (to my mind, at least), that the text is a little too technical, and doesn't draw the reader into a participation in the enormois effort show more that the ancient Greeks and their partners would have put in to create such wonders (hence only 4 stars). Every page is dense with technical architectural terms, more so than the other volumes, and the book really requires an appendix explaining all these terms and their significance. There is a small diagram on p.99 illustrating 18 architectural terms, and an extensive Glossary with text definitions). show less
