Goodbye Hello is a wonderful look at how death affects the living. Author Adam Berry is a professional ghost hunter, having been on Ghost Hunters Academy, Ghost Hunters, and now Kindred Spirits. I have personally followed Berry from his time on GHA and I was very excited to get my hands on his book.
Overall, this book is not what I expected which is not a bad thing. As a "celebrity" ghost hunter, I anticipated these pages to be filled with Berry's life experiences with spirit without touching show more on harder topics. While there are elements of personal storytelling (both on and off the job), I was pleasantly surprised to find the book focuses more on a comprehensive look at multiple aspects of dying, death, and spiritual matters. The obvious passion and love that Berry has for the metaphysical/spiritual space is clear in reading the respect he has for family members, living and past. With multiple interviews with other paranormal experts, Goodbye Hello is a great resource for families who are dealing with loss and wondering what the "great beyond" means for them. show less

I hated this book. I recently read 'Spook' and 'Over My Dead Body' and both of them dealt with themes of death, afterlife, and burial and they were filled with well researched and cited histories and conversations with experts. This book is the opposite of that. I kept having to put it down because I genuinely got mad or find myself huffing at it. The eye roll response was real.
At it's core this book is an actor's memoir talking about how he made it big in the world of paranormal reality TV. show more Everything is presented as fact because it was on episode 2 of season 3. The whole title is 'Goodbye Hello: Processing Grief and Understanding Death through the Paranormal'; but there has really been no talk of grief or anything other than him having to evolve through time to even realize that spirits were people and consider what he could do for them. Isn't that anyone's first thought? But no he admits he was just chasing experience on his shoots, not investigations but shoots. An unused bedroom in New England was cold in the winter? Absolutely no other explanation for that - must be haunted.
TL;DR - I think this was written for people who are already fans of him and/or his shows as there isn't much substance beyond that show less

I really enjoyed Adam's story. I have been aware of him from being very into ghost hunting shows and the paranormal, so hearing more of his personal perspective was a nice addition. I really liked how he discussed the importance of being respectful and his focus on finding answers vs crossing people over. It was well narrated and a great listen.
