Rhys Kinnick has retired from his newspaper job, divorced, somewhat estranged from his daughter after hitting his son-in-law in the face, and moved to a remote land in Idaho. Unannounced, a woman brings his two grandchildren, Leah and Asher, to him with the note their mother left that the children be taken to him.
Where did Bethany, the mother go? Rhys recruits an old girl friend to help find Bethany who also enlists Chuck, a semi-crazy ex-cop to find her. They find Bethany, but there are a show more lot of misadventures along the way including a trip to a weird music festival in Canada and a crazy ultra conservative Christian compound. There is humor in the story - it would make a great movie with just enough humor, interesting characters, etc.
It's a part mystery, part soap opera, part cop story, and part family drama. Overall, pretty good read but glad it wasn't much longer. show less
