Nina is still very funny, and her adventures are still involving, but I don't find this as zingy as the earlier entries in the series. For those who are curious about what it was like to be a not very glamorous single in NY in the 1990's, however, these books provide the answers.
Number two in a series centered on not-very-sucessful and not-at-all married New York lawyer Nina Fischman. With the help of her intrepid mother Ida, she gets involved in one set of murderous messes after another, and usually manages to resolve them. The joy in the Fischman novels isn't the plot, it's the tone of voice and the sense of place.

1994 Nina Fischman #4. Wonderful! Nina's wry observations are hilarious. 40 year old Jewish lawyer in Manhattan. Being a self-acknowledged Jew was hot these days. Especially if you were a man. 'People' magazine was filled with photos of yarmulked studio executives and banking moguls rediscovering their roots. And some of their wives had even converted.
