A Haunting in Lottawatah is a humorous mystery about a psychic who is bumbling her way into life as a ghost hunter. Brianna is an independent, sassy, fun character to follow along. The story is written in first person, so we get a great feel for her personality.
This is the fifth book in the series, but the first I've read. While I had no problem following the story, I did have a lack of connection with some aspects. For instance, her relationship with her cop boyfriend felt odd and distant show more to me. That is likely a result of me not having read the earlier books, though there wasn't much effort here to develop or explain the situation.
The plot is entertaining, with some good twists. While it has some spooky parts, most of it is done in a comical way rather than creepy or scary. Overall, this is a light read ideal when you need a break and a giggle. show less

A cozy murder that is light on clues but somehow the heroine worries the murderer enough that a second murder happens. An enjoyable read.
My original Leaving Lottawatah audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.
Although Leaving Lottawatah is the eleventh book in this series, I had no problems following the story line or working out who the characters were. It is a short, but delightful cozy mystery that works fine as a standalone.
The story centers around Brianna Sullivan who has a special talent: she can see and communicate with ghosts. After an argument with her fiancé Cooper, Brianna and her loyal show more bulldog Leon are about to flee Lottawatah, Oklahoma, in their trusted motor home, but instead end up heading for a psychic convention with Sassy, Brianna’s ex-future mother-in-law, and a mother and young daughter who have recently lost their husband/father. Confronted by a ghost in the most haunted hotel in America, the little group becomes involved in the search for a serial killer who has been abducting girls. As another girl is missing, Brianna has to use her skill to help the dead and the living as well as work out the future of her relationship with her detective fiancé.
Leaving Lottawatah was a lovely mix of paranormal mystery, romance and humor. It was fast paced and entertaining. Brilliant for dog lovers, as Leon the bulldog was a very adorable character.
The narration was okay. More reading than acting here. At times, the narrator’s intonation reminded me of books being read aloud at school. Some bits, such as the child’s voice and the singing, were done very well. Lisa Kelly was a new narrator for me, and I would try another book narrated by her. The production was okay.

Brianna Sullivan is still living in Lottawatah, still “maybe” seeing Jackson Cooper, when the ghost of his classmate Martha Boxer appears to Brianna. Now Brianna needs to figure out who killed Martha and why.
This short story is well-written with a good flow and pace though sparse on details. Enjoyed. I love the sound of the name “Lottawatah”.
