The Sam Morris story is a fascinating one and Woodward does well to tease out Morris's history from a paucity of references. While Sam Morris: Cricket's Capital All-Rounder is a slim publication (95 pages including the addendum and bibliography), Morris emerges as flesh and blood; the first black man to play Test cricket, no less.
The most amazing tidbit from the book for me was the fact that Morris did not know that he was a Test cricketer until told about it decades after he took the field show more for Australia in January 1885. show less
