This is lightweight erotica, a strangely constructed book in the tradition of erotic memoirs, although its individual flavour sets it apart from the many books of its time within this genre. It concerns a young lady (variously surnamed Mare or Mere in different editions) who is soon abandoned by her husband, despite her voracious appetites, and who is quickly able to put those appetites to good use with the help of various enthusiastic madams. An acquaintance called Gladys makes ex cathedra show more observations throughout, striking an odd note. Blanche herself has theatrical ambitions, and her willingness to oblige the male directors of that profession in ways that are not strictly Thespian seem to ensure her prosperity. Her many erotic adventures are here catalogued, without a great deal of detail (or enthusiasm, it must be said). show less
