loved the core concept of fears turning into powers.
The "Vulture's Triangle" hierarchy is a great setup for political intrigue. The character development is a huge strength, especially watching Daniel and Brenda transform. However, at times, I found the main character Daniel's decisions a bit frustrating, especially regarding the romantic subplot. That said, the mysteries of the Academy and the thrilling action sequences kept me hooked. The ending leaves you desperate for the next book.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. If you enjoy a good mystery wrapped in a cult wrapped in some sci fi, then you'll enjoy this book.
The characters are believable, annoying at times but likeable. Enough twists and turns to keep you engaged and the ending wasn't too bad.
Daniel really wanted to help, he also needed to keep himself safe and free. He came across as a normal guy with a shitty past.
