In book one of the Solsti Prophecy, Gunnar is a two hundred year old Lash demon with a dark, painful past. He belongs to an elite group of warriors called the Watchers. The Lash demons are from the Torth realm and the group monitors and protects the various realms, including Earth, from evil creatures and to always keep a balance of good and evil. Gunnar and four of his brethren have made their base in Chicago where they’re hunting Skell demons.
Nicole and her sister Brooke have unusual show more elemental abilities. Nicole can control the air and her sister controls water. It’s not until Nicole meets Gunnar that she realizes the truth about her heritage and the role she and her sisters will later play to protect the world and all the realms from an unspeakable evil. They’re Solsti, a rare and ancient race of sisters who saved all the realms thousands and thousands of years ago. It’s prophesized the sisters will return in new bodies, as new people, when the realms need them again.
Gunnar is sexy and protective, Nicole is strong and smart, and they make an excellent team. Their lust and romance builds fast but it’s believable. The sex scenes are hot and long. Their trip to Torth was awesome, especially their visit to Rivkin, the home of the wood nymphs. Torth is a dangerous, magical fairytale-type land that’s home to various creatures, both good and evil. Gunnar’s comrades—Kai, Brenin and Rhys—are so swoon worthy and the sexual tension between Kai and Brooke was off the charts. I definitely can’t wait to read more about these demons and their future women. Raniero’s back story is heartbreaking and I’m anxious to find out more about his lost love, Ashina.
Though the book is well-written, I found a few stray typos but nothing to take me out of the story. I love the character development and I’ll be sure to read more in the series.

The blurb sums up the story perfectly, so I’ll dive right in to my review. Ugh. This series rocks my world! I was already ensnared when I read the first book. The world building is just that good. This series feels fresh, and while it has many scorching hot scenes between the various heroes and heroines, there are enough action scenes with somewhat gruesome battles to balance things out. I would recommend reading the books in order mainly to get a good grasp of the world and all the show more characters that (re)appear throughout.

Nicole and Kai were introduced in the first book, and let’s just say they didn’t get off to a good start. Despite the fact that Brooke’s sister, Nicole, had mated Gunnar didn’t mean they’d all become one happy family. Kai was about to learn that there was one female who could resist him, and he’d have some groveling to do if she didn’t skewer him with ice daggers first.

I adored these characters both individually and as a couple. Brooke was a sassy, independent female sans flair for theatrics. I can’t stress enough how much I love heroines who don’t come with the (almost standard) flaw of being afraid of falling in love and getting hurt. Her dislike of Kai in the beginning wasn’t her being a b*tch but rather she wanted to be treated with a little respect and not like a piece of meat. Understandable. Another great trait that earned her brownie points with me was that she never claimed she could handle the dangers by herself. She knew she needed help so she diligently practiced with her abilities and continued with her fight training without complaint. I loathe heroines who throw caution to the wind because they mistake genuine concern from their alpha male for high-handedness.

Kai. I knew I was going to love him from the moment he put his foot in his mouth at the end of book one, and again when he realized that he was inexplicably drawn to the woman who kept ignoring or scowling at him. He was protective but not overbearing, and I loved that he encouraged and praised her whenever they found themselves fighting for their lives or when she dug deep to increase the strength of her abilities. He may have been a centuries old demon and she a nearly three decades old human, but they treated each other like equals and partners.

The main action of the story is tied to Kai’s brutal past. When his past and present collide with Brooke caught in the middle, I loved how well she handled herself and the way it brought them closer together. The love scenes were scorching hot, as usual. The story flowed nicely from start to finish that I finished this book rather quickly. There wasn’t a moment where the story felt stunted or boring, therefore I never wanted to put the book down. The best thing about the series is that each book doesn’t end on a dreaded cliffhanger. Each couple deals with a villain, and there’s a set-up for the next couple and the enemy.

On that note, I strongly encourage any PNR lovers to give this series a try. If you’re a fan of Larissa Ione or Felicity Heaton, I think you’ll really enjoy it. If you give one new series or an indie author a try this year, do it here and now. I will be purchasing print copies for myself in the near future.

Book One is currently on sale for only 99 cents until February 9th, 2014.

~ 5 Kissed By A Demon Spy ~

Kissed By A Demon Spy was an impressive novella in the Solsti Prophecy series. This novella covers Garnet’s story. She was a thrall slave who was featured in [b:Wicked Waves|19051153|Wicked Waves (Solsti Prophecy #2)|Sharon Kay|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386117317s/19051153.jpg|27076114], where she helped Kai and Brooke escape from Draven’s compound in Stroehm. It picks up after Draven’s demise, but it can be read as a stand-a-lone.

I have enjoyed the show more Solsti Prophecy. The world building is impressive, along with all the different demon species and experiences each character has. Some have lead peaceful lives while others, like Garnet, have been slaves or worse. It’s a wonderful mix of lifestyles.

I was hopping to get Garnet’s tale, after she was featured in Wicked Waves. I liked her and her bravery for helping, even when she knows it could put her in danger. She’s a tough female, even after spending 172 years as a slave and subjected to many horrific things. She still manages to find kindness and offer compassion. Having her son around, Dash, made her into a women worth reading about.

I loved Aden. He’s a Deserati demon who’s settled in a peaceful village. He uses his scrying ability to spy on Vipers and thwart their attacks on peaceful villages in the realm. What I enjoyed the most about him was his extreme patience and sensuality. He was so great with Garnet and her son Dash. He never pushed her to talk or to do more then she was ready for. He was protective and did a great job building her up again.

The chemistry between Aden and Garnet was sizzling. I absolutely enjoyed the slow burn. It was great seeing Garnet gain confidence and feel safe enough to give herself to Aden. I really liked how they took time to develop and grow as characters. Also that they talked and shared their lives with each other.

This novella didn’t leave me wanting for anything. It’s short, sexy and satisfying. If you like a touch of magic and paranormal, then you should give this novella and the Solsti Prophecy series a try.

Falling into Right by Sharon Kay
Redemption County #2

Another wonderful book in this delightful series set in Redemption County, Illinois!

Becca Gable did something that changed her life forever. Unable to work in the field she trained for she has taken up a new job way under her skill set, paid the fine required by the court and is moving on to the best of her ability. As she is leaving the courthouse she slips, falls and lands at the feet of Shane Marlow and his K-9 partner, Denver. Shane show more is a hunk and a half, a war hero, a cop, a hottie and all around nice guy with the whole alpha thing going on that was splendid to read about and for Becca to experience. Becca is a sweetie, good friend, beautiful, open and honest with an openness and charm that was fun to read about and for Shane to experience. Shane has a bit of PTSD and Becca is dealing with a bad year and the fallout from what she has experienced – the two are there for one another, accepting of each other and feel stronger together.

The two should not meet again after seeing one another in the courthouse but when Shane shows up on her doorstep with Denver to return something she dropped things change…a bit…and then change more when they serendipitously meet again at his sister’s bar. Well, one date leads to another and another and boy do the two get along well together socially, emotionally and sensually (fanning myself here thinking about one scene in particular). Their relationship flows easily and it all feels “real” to me. Of course Becca has an evil stalker bothering her that has to eventually be dealt with and I had a pretty good idea who it was but all in all this was a book I could not put down once I started reading. I would love to have Becca and Shane as friends and live in their town. I REALLY liked this story and only bumped it down a bit in my rating because of the predictableness of who the stalker was.

Thank you to the author who bequeathed an ARC of this book to me through NetGalley – This is my honest review.
