This is a survey book published for Barnes and Noble. There is much here that a reader unaquainted with the breadth of FLWs work will obtain from this book. It is a small book with the simple structure of a page of description and page with a photograph organized in chronological order. This is standard for this type of book. The text does get to some higher level concepts in a simple way: geometry, structure, social context, theory of place, etc. I am not sure these concepts were show more intentional or is just so much on FLW that it is easy to distill. You learn a few biographical points along the way, especially the operatic portions. That is the positive. The negatives, unfortunately, out way the positives. A small negative is the text; it needs a proof read. A school is called a house, a brick a stone in places. This is not theoretical talk. Just an error. I wish there was an index by location or some maps to facilitate a traveler. And most importantly the images are very poor. Probably the result of the low production. Without adding pages, they could have published a plan or elevation of each building along with a better photograph. The visuals in this subject matter need to be read as well. This negative is 1/2 the content of the book. And most of the images are just plain bad from a production and communication device. For this, I would have given it a 2 star. But raised it a 1/2 because of the quality of info crammed into a very small page. show less
