Ross Dobson takes a look at grillhouse or gastro-pub style food, pointing out that it has been somewhat sidelined by some of the trendier chefs today. His book is filled with fairly straight forward honest simple recipes under the headings: starters, grilled, baked, sides and sweets. The recipes offer uncomplicated dishes and range from pies and slow oven cooked dishes to chargrilled food, and includes even recipes for the likes of roast potatoes. There a plenty of meat and fish dishes along show more with some purely vegetable ones.

The recipes are clear and well laid out on the page, usually one to a page and almost always with a full colour full page photograph of the dish on the facing page. However other than the instructions there are no additional comments accompanying the individual recipes.

This is a beautifully produced and presented book with a hard cover heavily embossed in imitation of the ribs of a griddle pan.
