Cutely forgettable little story painted in a modern-expressionist style, about a dog who jumps on a train, has a weird adventure in space, gets turned into a talking dog, becomes involved in world affairs, but never loses his heart and just wants to get back home and do doggy things again. I like the symbol-language everybody speaks and the colour freakouts used to express the olfactory canine world. Winner of the Max und Moritz Preis, which is a mighty endorsement. Hey! This counts as show more reading in German (the only words in the book are "Wau Wau!"), right? Ha ha. show less
Spacedog by Hendrik Dorgathen is a wordless graphic novel about a dog trying to find its place in the world. This includes a brief stint as as a space dog.

The titular dog is a red, square shaped creature. The artwork that takes him from the farm, to the city, to the lab, to space and back reminds me of a cross between 1950s commercial art and a quilt.
