Elizabeth H. Dow
Author of Electronic Records in the Manuscript Repository
About the Author
Elizabeth H. Dow presents an introduction to vocabulary, basic concepts and best practices to date by collecting and contextualizing data from several real-world projects. She also provides references and resources that the curator can consult for information on specific topics. Dow starts with a show more review of archival concepts, including a look at archival practices in the paper-based world. She then discusses problems created by electronic materials with archival importance and the research in progress to tackle those problems. As a guide for the "Lone Arranger," Electronic Records in the Manuscript Repository provides invaluable information. Elizabeth H. Dow directs the archives track in the School of Library and Information Science at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She is the author of Creating EAD-Compatible Finding Guides on Paper (Scarecrow Press, 2005). show less

Archivists, Collectors, Dealers, and Replevin: Case Studies on Private Ownership of Public Documents by Elizabeth H. Dow
The topic of this book is fascinating, but it is so bedeviled by poor copy-editing and inconsistencies in formatting and style as to make it more annoying than useful (at least to this poor unfortunate soul who is driven a bit batty by such things). Using more real-world examples instead of vague abstract case studies also would have improved it, but the greatest fault is the lack of editorial attention.
A nice basic introduction to the concepts of EAD and how to incorporate them into paper finding aids. Probably too simplistic to anyone with more than the basic knowledge of EAD.
