1830 Hugo Black and the Judicial Revolution, by Gerald T. Dunne (read 4 Mar 1984) I found this book utterly absorbing. Black's story is intriguing, and while there are stands he took I disagree with, much he said and did was right. He was born in Clay County, Alabama, on 27 Feb 1886, elected to the U.S. Senate in 1926, re-elected in 1932, and appointed to succeed Willis Van Devanter in 1937. He died 25 Sep 1971. This book is by no means a definitive biography, but it is unfailingly show more interesting and I found it absorbing. show less
1208. Justice Joseph Story and the Rise of the Supreme Court, by Gerard T. Dunne (read 6 Mar 1973) Story not only served on the Supreme Court from 1811 till he died on Sept 10, 1845, but he was born on my birthday--though a few years before me. I found the book amateurishly written, though not bad, but not a great biography.
