The Art of Papercraft by Helen Hiebert
Unique One-Sheet Projects Using Origami, Weaving, Quilling, Pop-Up, and Other Inventive Techniques
Fascinating, informative, and inspiring – this book reminded me of a trip with my father to watch master papermakers demonstrate how they made paper. It also reminded me of my children’s science classes in school when paper was one of their projects. It also reminded me of pop-up books my mother bought and that I later made for my granddaughters. I show more learned information I had not heard before and would love to have this book in my library.
What I would like to try making:
* The pop-up alphabet
* The sailboat envelope
* Some of the cards
* A kite with my granddaughters
* Some of the origami projects
* And more
What I liked:
* The photographs & illustrations
* Historical information
* The directions – easy to follow
* The information on techniques and tools
* The variety of papers included
* The artists and their creations
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I buy it for myself or someone else? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Weaving with Paper: 30 Projects to Expand Your Creativity with Inventive Techniques, Intriguing Prompts, and Inspiring Works of Art by Helen Hiebert
Weaving with Paper by Helen Hiebert is both a DIY and inspirational title. Starting with a short history of various types of weaving, and then quickly moving into the basic steps and tools for working with paper. Luckily, this is a craft that requires very few tools and materials to start, but a few things will make it easier. Then, different prompts provide a starting point as well as a way to develop a daily practice and explore creativity. There are a lot of great ideas and things to try show more here, with very good step-by-step photos. Even better, there are artist versions of each project to show variations and provide ideas for trying more and going to the next level. Toward the end there are a few projects to showcase how the woven papers can be used such as lamp shades, book covers, etc. Finally there are stunning inspiration pieces by the leading artists in the field.
With both the simple instructions and the more complicated pieces this is a great book for those just starting and those wanting to go deeper into the craft. After trying a couple of the starter projects, I may be hooked. The printed media that can be used, and structure of the paper, make some amazing images, and offers a different perspective than weaving with yarn or cloth.

Way too much introductory text for a crafting book. Way too many small pictures of creations we could never approach. In fact, the very first craft was impossible, as the demonstration showed a square of origami paper that was the same color on face and back. The rotation after each 'fold in the corners' wasn't even shown. Either be a pretty art book, or a how-to craft book, but don't fail at both.

The Art of Papercraft: Unique One-Sheet Projects Using Origami, Weaving, Quilling, Pop-Up, and Other Inventive Techniques by Helen Hiebert
I received this e-book ARC of The Art of Papercraft by Helen Hiebert through Net Galley from Storey Publishing, LLC in exchange for a truthful review.
Wow, I am really enjoying this book! Starts off with a history of paper/paper making, proceeds with tools used in papercrafting and then follows up with lots of cool projects. Most of these projects don't appear to be too difficult and they look impressive when completed! I don't think I will delve into making my own paper, but I will show more definitely try projects beyond the origami section projects, which I knew I would enjoy. Exploding cube? Cool! show less
