- Ms. Flores has been a Licensed Social Worker for nearly twenty years. She holds a Masters of Science in Counseling Education and is a Human Development Specialist. Ms. Flores writes a regular magazine article entitled Spiritual Parenting, facilitates a monthly kids group and is the mother of three children. She lectures nationally on parenting, multi-cultural issues and human trafficking. Ms. Flores mission is to educate others on the horrors of trafficking and fight against this huge injustice of innocent people. In this powerful true story, Theresa Flores shares how her life as an All-American, blue-eyed, blond-haired 15-year-old teenager who could have been your neighbor was enslaved into the dangerous world of sex trafficking while living in an upper-middle class suburb of Detroit. This was a short read that was a very emotional ride. A very sad account of one girl's experiences with being forced into being a sexual slave. It was not written as a story but more like a documentary or interview which kind of made it a little dry. However, the message was loud and clear this DOES happen, and it is horrible. What courage this young woman has to expose herself by coming forward. I can't give a thumbs-up to the way it was written but can give one to the message it sends and show more to the author. show less

I was so unhappy with this book. I thought that it would be eye opening and informing, instead it was just poorly written and lacked credibility.
I found Flores writing to be extremely redundant. Perhaps the book would have been better served as a novelette, and not 300 odd pages long.
I also don't think that some of the events could have actually happened. It seems unlikely that neither her parents or a cop wouldn't see that she had blood on her pjs after being abandoned in the hotel.
I'm show more sure that something bad did happen to Flores for a prolonged period of time. It's just a pity that her writing was so very poor. It's quite amazing how she was able to overcome such terrible treatment and I feel that her spirit should be respected. show less

This book could have been much more powerful with a little bit of good editing. Both the chapters and the sentences were short and choppy, making it difficult for me to get deeply engaged in the book. I also found several typographical errors with the incorrect homonym being used, which is very discouraging.
The book is a troubling look into the reality of human trafficking in the United States. The author was kept as a teenage sex slave in Michigan by classmates from her school.
