I found this a helpful tips and strategy for approaching ministry. Not just for youth but most associate roles in church. I’m 6 months into a youth job and found myself agreeing with some of the mistakes I’ve made already. Also realizing where people forced me to fit their needs or expectations more than I was ready for it. We are in 2020 when i write so Covid is a thing, yet ppl got angry over changes I made to help us survive the pandemic changes and even lashed at me for doing my job. show more This book helped me realize some places of healing and clarity. show less
This is a book on how to give a sermon message to teenagers. It is part a book on how to give a sermon, and part a textbook on public speaking. There are many overlaps, but there are certain things you do to prepare a sermon (e.g. praying) that you don't necessarily do when preparing other types of speeches. The two authors used many humorous illustrations to make the content more interesting and readable. I think it is a good book for teaching public speaking -- better than the ones I've show more used before :P They organize the content a little differently than most public speaking textbooks, with two separate chapters on nonverbal cues (voice elements get its own chapter). (And there's another chapter on the ways the room and stage can be set up.) Presentational aid is treated as a type of supporting material/illustration you think about when organizing the speech. It makes more sense to me. show less
This book is good for youth volunteers or youth pastors gifted and full of ideas for youth ministry work, but lack spiritual maturity in dealing with discouragement, interpersonal issues, leadership issues, managing priorities...etc. If you (like me) were looking to understand youth culture or what distinguishes youth ministry from adult, this is not the resource :P
A marvelous book about things to do with friends. Hilarious and inventive, it's worth reading even if you never plan to do any of it - but I have done several of their ideas and event was a hoot and a half!
