Clara Eggink (1906–1991) publiceerde in de literaire tijdschriften De Gids, Forum, Helikon, De Gemeenschap, Maatstaf, Critisch Bulletin en Bzzlletin, was medewerkster van de dagbladen De Stem en De Telegraaf en had twintig jaar lang een boekenrubriek in het Leidsch Dagblad.

Zij vertaalde bijna 50 romans uit de wereldliteratuur in het Nederlands, van Charlotte Brontë, Emily Brontë, John Steinbeck, Daphne du Maurier, W. Somerset Maugham, Nancy Mitford, Joseph Conrad, F.M. Dostojevski, Iris Murdoch, Ernest Hemingway, Guy de Maupassant en anderen.
