The sub-title of this densely packed little book is 'Recipes from country housewives collected by Farmers Weekly'. First published in 1935, my copy is the 1973 edition. As well as the usual chapters on Soup, Meat, Puddings and the like are Christmas Fare, Pig Curing and By-products, Cheese Making, Wines and Meads and the delightful For Your Corner Cupboard which includes such treats as the 'health-giving' nettle syrup, buttercup ointment and a a recipe for a 'beautiful creamy tonic stout' show more which involves more nettles, liquorice and potatoes. show less
