Oxford Dictionary of Chemistry (Oxford Paperback Reference) by John Daintith
I dizionari Penguin e Oxford sono quasi sempre più che attendibili: manca fin troppo spesso il termine che uno cerca ma sono sempre opere serie, anche se a volte un po’ troppo superficiali per il traduttore tecnico. Personalmente non traduco chimica e quindi il libro generalmente rimane lì… Per il traduttore letterario potrebbe bastare e avanzare. Il problema che trovo con questo libro in particolare è che l’approccio è troppo generale: se voglio sapere cos’è un “anorthite”, show more lo troverò solo sotto “feldspars” – ma se non so che è un “feldspar”, come faccio a trovarlo? Questo vuol dire che, dal punto di vista pratico, più volte mi sono trovato a bocciare questo dizionario.
