This is an excellent book on the information visualization consulting process. It really brought together a lot of things I'd half-stumbled upon in my own career moving from sci viz (mostly physical simulation data) to info viz. In particular, making the processes of operationalization and finding appropriate proxies explicit.
A hands-on guide to information visualization, mainly in contexts of professional use such as business intelligence. The book combines some basics of user-centered design with solid information on data types and visualization techniques, and it should be a very good introduction to practical visualization for students in computer science, informatics and engineering.
