Vic's come a long way from the neurotic, introverted and very shy man we meet at the beginning of the series. He's still shy, socially awkward, and neurotic, but that's why we like him so much, right? Jacob, too, has grown and the relationship has settled into something solid and real.
The job for the FPMP has him frazzled and confused. Regional Director Laura Kim wants him to find and train more mediums, but there really is no standard for such a search, so he's floundering. When one of show more FPMP's agents turns up dead, he, Jacob, and Agent Bly (who I would love to see get at least a short story of his own) are tapped to track down the killer. To help with the ghost hunting and medium search duties, Regional Director Kim brings in help in the person of "Dead" Darla, another of Vic's old Heliotrope class mates. Though they get off to a rocky start, they find their talents complement each other and that they're capable of getting along just fine.
To top it off, we finally get some real glimpses into Vic's past, before Camp Hell, before the trip to the psych ward. Not all of it was bad, happily, but ... we're talking about JC Price here folks. She's sneaky and clever. I want to know more and she just hints at the things hiding just out of sight. sigh.
It's nice, too, to see Crash happy too with Red. What an interesting pair they make.
When I finished this book, I thought, no way is this the last book in the series because there are just too many loose threads dangling .... book ten will be out later this year! YAY! show less

This series just keep getting better and this one was, in a word.... amazing! It may be my favorite of the entire series, which I have read more than once. Jacob is not in this story very much. That is unless you count Vic thinking about him... missing him...bumping into him. Jacob is ever present, just not physically. This is Vic’s first undercover mission. The mission itself is not crazy creepy or weird...I guess “odd” is the best way to describe it. As always, one of the best things show more is being inside Vic’s head...and Vic’s undercover “head” is priceless!! Then we have the BIG SCENE when Vic goes home. The end of the book brings us back around to the mystery of Vic’s past and sets us up perfectly for the next book. I love physically holding a book and turning the pages. There's just something about that those sooths my "reader's soul". Occasionally I can do e-books or audio books, and this was the audio version. I’ve always thought that along with a really good author to tell the story a book is often made or broke by the person that lends their voice to tell the story. I have to give credit to Gomez Pugh for a fantastic narration. show less
I loved the book, especially the love scene at the end and also how the plot twisted and turned. An added attraction was seeing that Maurice was there at the end. This is only book #2 and I have already read several of the other books...out of order of course, so I know that the story plots well from one book to the next. This is a paranormal cop series, with same sex partners and a slew of interesting, strange characters and happenings. It may seem a bit strange to describe paranormal show more creepy stuff as fun, but Jordan Castillo Price has a way of bringing all the fun and more to the table no matter what the main characters face. I couldn't help but love Vic and Jacob. Anyone who needs to have their books follow perfectly in a storyline and not have to wonder why or how something occurred will really want to read these in order. show less
Beautiful. Incredible. I went straight from reading the first book in one sitting to reading this all the way through (and it's now 5:15 AM). I got so excited when I realized that this book was from Elijah's viewpoint, and right from the first page I could feel the difference in his voice from Daniel's. During this book, Elijah just fills out so much as a character that I actually care for him more than Daniel now. The way it's written communicates his past, his struggles, and his desires so show more well that I feel like I know him in reality. I am rather awed at how well this builds upon the first...together they make the story irresistible, and I cannot wait for the last book!
This delves so well into Elijah's mind and character that his actions from the first book are explained and you can really understand him. This is a bit of a unique way to approach a series, and I am so happy that J. C. Price decided to write it like this, because otherwise we would have never understood Elijah in full and missed out on his side of the story. It was especially helpful, seeing as I don't know reality as experienced by an autistic mind, this painted a very clear picture, and allowed me to understand some autistic individuals in my real life better.
This part of the series continues the relationship with Daniel (in case you haven't read book one, you really have to first) as its main focus, but also explains Elijah's past and his experiences as neuroatypical. As I've already said, it gives a much clearer picture of Elijah, and adds immeasurably to the quality of this story overall because now you can actually understand Elijah, not just be confused as Daniel sometimes is. But, Daniel, oh Daniel...he is sometimes short-tempered and reactive, but he is so understanding and patient with Elijah most of the time. I just love Elijah and Daniel together, each are really what the other needs, and they are coming to appreciate that fact. And Elijah, he is so sweet. He does his best to understand and communicate with Daniel, and they have an amazing connection, I just hope that Daniel realizes how far Elijah is willing to go for him. It will be interesting to see how everything is resolved--personally, I hope that someone cracks down on the two bullies in this book! But, regardless, I gave book one five stars, and this one is even better, so I'll say this gets five plus stars. I loved it all the way and fully recommend it to everyone. show less
