A fun book, but relies a little too heavily on long extracts from literary sources (often "A Christmas Carol"). Abundantly illustrated; unfortunately many the illustrations are reproduced in greatly reduced size, making them difficult to inspect.
It's no wonder that the English are incomprehensible to foreigners. The authors brilliantly capture the Englishness of the 90% of society from the respectable working class upwards.
I would have easily given it 5 stars if it had included two other subcultures; the admittedly small upper class, and the troublesome non-respectable working class i.e. the Kray twins cockney fan club, lager louts and football yobs.
