This is a pretty decent book, especially for an Evangelical Protestant seriously considering Orthodoxy or a former Evangelical Protestant who has already chosen to embrace the Orthodox Church. It probably wouldn't be that great for someone of a more liturgical Protestant or Roman Catholic background. The arguments are too focused on Evangelical/Pentecostal to really take into account the more liturgical and sacramental churches. But I do think that Gallatin does a good job at pointing out show more the inadequacies of Protestant churches, especially the inadequacy of Sola Scriptura. show less
This book is in part a book about Gallatin's journey into Orthodoxy, but even more than that Gallatin uses this book to explain Orthodox thought, theology, and praxis to the protestant reader. Overall the book is very good and Gallatin presents clear arguments as to why he now views Orthodox theology to be correct as opposed to his previous beliefs as a protestant. He can come off a little strong in denouncing his previous beliefs now and then, but overall I would say he generally is rather show more fair in his appraisal of protestant vs. Orthodox theology. show less
