“My Best Friend Will” is an informational book that teaches children about autism in a way they can understand. With the use of real photographs and a limited amount of text, it keeps readers interested. Providing children with real life examples of someone with autism allows them to get insight on the world of someone with autism. “Autism is a different way of thinking.”
I truly love this book. The beautiful pictures capture what one of our kids on the spectrum looks like. The book is written from perspective of a typical child describing her best friend Will. She goes into detail what autism is like and the challenges faced by this young man. I think the book would also be great for siblings and family members.
A book written by a child telling of her friendship with a boy with autism, and how she understands his world as it unfolds at work, at home, and at play. It is illustrated with photographs of the two friends.
The Autism Intervention Program, South West Region recommends this book to help children learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorders.
