Francis Golffing (1910–2012)

Dr. Golffing was born in Vienna, Austria on Nov. 10, 1910. He came to the United States in 1941 where he met and married the poet Barbara Gibbs. Dr. Golffing was a college professor, poet and artist. He taught at Bennington College in Vermont and Nathaniel Hawthorn and Franklin Pierce in New Hampshire. He was fluent in many languages: German, Spanish, French and Italian. He is best known for his translation of ‘Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy and The Genealogy of Morals.’
