- Dr. Golffing was born in Vienna, Austria on Nov. 10, 1910. He came to the United States in 1941 where he met and married the poet Barbara Gibbs. Dr. Golffing was a college professor, poet and artist. He taught at Bennington College in Vermont and Nathaniel Hawthorn and Franklin Pierce in New Hampshire. He was fluent in many languages: German, Spanish, French and Italian. He is best known for his translation of ‘Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy and The Genealogy of Morals.’
