Hiking guidebooks see most of their use on the trail. Recent editions of this guide were clearly designed with that philosophy in mind, evidenced by their water-resistant covers, rounded corners, and compact dimensions. These books were equipped to take a beating (and mine sure did).

Unfortunately, this 13th edition abandoned the lessons of its predecessors: it comes with square corners, a standard paperback cover, and larger, awkward, physical dimensions. It makes for comfy reading on the show more couch, but is already being torn apart in my backpack.

Even so, the content is accurate, helpful, and well-researched (as always). If not for the glaring physical issues, this guidebook would easily deserve 5 stars. show less
