- Short biography
- As of 2007, Shelly Shapiro was an Editor-at-Large at Del Rey Books (https://www.sfrevu.com/php/Review-id.p...), where she had been an editor under various titles for many years, working extensively with Anne McCaffrey. During her overall career she also "worked as an illustrator and cartographer for works of fiction. In 1988 she reproduced some maps of [Tolkien's] Middle-earth ..." (https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Shelly...) and also drew maps for books by David Eddings (https://davideddings.fandom.com/wiki/S...). She is credited on the copyright page for having drawn the maps for Katherine Kurtz's The Bishop's Heir, The King's Justice, The Quest for Saint Camber, The Deryni Archives, and The Bastard Prince, although explicit copyright is only claimed for the unsigned map in The Bastard Prince. These maps are signed ("Shelly" over "Shapiro" with "'84" to the right, all in an irregular convex pentagon that looks like a tag or an elongated home plate pointing to the right and positioned in the lower-right of the map) in all the listed books except The Bastard Prince.
